Biodiversiteit in Beeld (BiB) is developing a cost-effective monitoring strategy to assess the state of biodiversity at sites managed by civil society organisations. This monitoring strategy will enable organisations to monitor biodiversity effectively and consistently.
Project summary
New techniques such as eDNA analysis, image recognition, wildlife cameras, soundscape analysis and remote sensing complement traditional techniques. They have the potential to assess the state of biodiversity more quickly, frequently and cost-effectively, and on a broader scale. There is a need for a standardised monitoring strategy based on these techniques that can be used by businesses, government bodies and NGOs. The aim is to develop a national, universally applicable strategy for measuring biodiversity that aligns with national and international policies and regulations. This approach is being put into practice in collaboration with civil society partners.
The outcome is a practical measurement strategy consisting of an innovative technique toolbox and a decision tree to help users efficiently select suitable monitoring techniques for specific objectives.
