The Nature Navigator is an innovative, web-based tool that helps local authorities and consultancy firms enhance biodiversity. It provides insight into where the greatest gains can be made, highlighting current conditions and recommending appropriate measures. The aim is to support users in achieving their green ambitions and improving local biodiversity. The Nature Navigator simplifies the process of taking concrete steps towards a nature-inclusive society.

Project
summary

Biodiversity is essential for a healthy and resilient living environment, which is vital for our well-being and the vitality of ecosystems. However, intensive land use is putting this natural capital under increasing pressure, so it is necessary to protect and enhance biodiversity. The 'Nature Navigator' project was established to contribute to this goal by developing a publicly accessible web tool.

What are the results
of the project?

This tool provides local authorities, consultancy firms and other organisations with insight into the current state of biodiversity in a given area, helping them to identify the greatest opportunities for improvement. The Nature Navigator brings together data from various research institutions and the Natural Capital Atlas, as well as area-specific data on conditions and bottlenecks where action is needed to restore biodiversity. The tool focuses on the ecological requirements in terms of planning, management and environmental conditions for Basic Nature Quality. Even users without in-depth ecological knowledge can be guided through the process of identifying effective measures that can contribute to improving local biodiversity during area development. The tool generates an overview of prioritised measures, enabling users to draw up a targeted action plan.
